Choosing a Unique Baby Name

Since every child is different, many parents want their child to have a unique baby name.
Finding that special name that will show good qualities and set the child apart from the rest, but not too far, is key in selecting a unique name. There are a few tips and considerations that will help parents to decide upon just the right name for their unique child.

* How unique should a name be? - While it can be cool for a child in school to have a different and unique name, if it is too farfetched it could be trouble. It is no surprise that school aged children can be relentless in their teasing at another child. Having a name that is so far out can be a kid's worst nightmare growing up. Be sure that when choosing a unique name that it will be difficult to come up with ways to use it as bullying fodder.

* Changing the spelling to create uniqueness. - If the parents want a unique name, but still like the sound of a more traditional one, they can alter the way that the name is spelled. This can work for names such as Angie, which can by spelled as Anjyee. This can help in matters of pronunciation. As long as the name sounds the same, others will still be able to know how to say it easily. Other ideas for changing the spelling of a name to make it unique is to add hyphens. This may change the way it is said because of the emphasis on different parts of the name.

* Culture or religion as a source. - Many unique names full of cultural meaning can be used for new babies. This can be a great way for the child to grow up with a sense of pride about their heritage and ancestry. Religion is a way to find unique names that also have meaning to the family, and will allow the child to grow up with more knowledge about their family faith.

* Favorite places, colours, etc. - Even though some of these types of names may not be so unique, such as Summer, Autumn, or Rose, there are plenty that can be very unique. A couple may choose to go with the name of the first place that they dated or met, like Paris. Other nature names can be used in this way as well. Examples are Paradise, Coral, or Gem.

*  Rearranging regular names. - One way to come up with unique sounding names is to change the position of the names. Many times, a surname of one parent can be used as a first name of the child. This is also another way in which a family tradition of naming children can be started. Also, parents can take parts of each of their names to combine it into one unique name for the new baby. Not only will the parents be able to come up with something new and different, the name will represent the forces that brought it into the world.
