President Barack Obama for Children

On January 20th 2008, Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States, and one of the youngest (he was 47).
Obama’s father was a university student from Kenya (which is a country in Africa) and his mother was student from Kansas in the USA. They met when they were both studying at the University of Hawaii, and had a child together whom they called Barack (after the father). When his dad finished studies in the University he returned to Kenya, but young Barack and hos mother stayed on in Hawaii. When Barack was six he and his mother moved to Indonesia. As an adult he lived in Chicago, where he met and married his wife Michelle. They have two daughters, Malia and Natasha (who is called Sasha).

The name Barack means “blessing from God”
His father's name was Barack Obama, so he is actually Barack Obama Junior.
His nickname is Barry.
When he was a kid he wanted to be an architect.
He collects comic books.
He has written three top selling books.

He is the first black President of the United States.
His favourite musicians include The Fugees, the Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen.
He really likes sports, loves playing basketall and his favourite television show is a sports programme called "Sportcenter".
Perhaps the most interesting fact of all is that when he lived in Indonesia he had two baby crocodiles and a gibbon as his pets - how cool is that!
