Just Who Was Elvis?

Elvis! To the world, there will only be one person that is ever totally associated with this name. Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll. Young children today may see the occasional Elvis movie on TV or hear the odd record on the radio but wonder why he's one of those rare icons who inspire people to dress their kids in Elvis baby clothes and children's clothing

Born in Tupelo, Mississippi, Elvis was given his first guitar at age 12 as a gift from his mother. No one dreamed that he would soon rocket to stardom as the biggest musical star the world had ever known. Today if you show someone a picture of Elvis’s face or see

During the 50s, Elvis burst onto the music scene with a velvet voice that could he could use to belt out rock with a sizzling beat. The love songs and ballads he would sing had a powerful yet haunting sound that never failed to connect with an audience. When he sang gospel songs, tears could be seen on listener’s faces.

Elvis’s music, guitar playing, vocals, and dancing were composed of a driving, rhythmic blend of blues, jazz, rock, and gospel. There had never been anyone like him at the time and none has ever approached his dynamic, mesmerizing style since.

Teenage girls became hysterical at the sight of his face and the sound of his voice. Teenage boys were in awe of the handsome, blue-eyed music sensation and imitated his dance moves clothing choices and the way he curled his upper lip when he sang or smiled.  Older people originally were shocked at his music and dancing, but were eventually won over by his talent and his personable charm. To the world Elvis was a national treasure, a person who seemingly could do no wrong. Even the British sensation of the 60s, the Beatles, looked up to him. When the group visited America for the first time, Elvis was the only person that they wanted to meet….and they did.

With songs like, ” Love Me Tender”, “Jailhouse Rock”, and “Heartbreak Hotel”, Elvis Presley was to forever change the sound of rock and roll. His classically handsome looks, dark hair, blue eyes, and half smile were to become permanently etched in the heart and minds of his millions of fans in every country of the world. No one in music history has sold as many albums as Elvis and it is doubtful that anyone will ever break his 1,300,000,000 mark. His fans today are of all ages and there are even people who make their livings by being Elvis Presley impersonators. Elvis died at the young age of 42 in 1977, but for many millions of people he will forever be the King.
