Top Kids’ Fashions: Current Trends for Girls and Boys
The top kids’ fashions for winter take the cold in account while leaving maximum space for individuality and imagination. The baggy look is on its way out and the long and lean look is in! Whether your child’s tastes run to the skater look, preppy or funky, there are varieties of choices out there that can be combined to make their style stand out.
If you take a look at what children are wearing today, you may think for a moment that you have traveled back to the eighties. But if you look closer, you will see that the best of the 80’s has combined with modern trends, leaving behind the oversized tops for long but more closely fitting tees, frilly blouses and shirts.
This winter no one has to be cold for the sake of fashion and the trends allow for mixing and matching; creating five or six outfits from two or three different sets.
For girls clothes, it is all about vivid, bright colour and bold patterns. Bright, vibrant colours or cool pinks, blues, and mints mixed with neutrals make for a great fashion statement.
* Short, pleated skirts in plaid over leggings with long layered tees to top off the look.
* Dark skinny jeans are in and look great with a trapeze blouse over a long tee or with layers of tees and a printed sweater.
* Short dresses paired with leggings or skinny jeans.
* Flat-soled boots look great with just about anything, including skirts or jeans and “furry” clogs such as those sold by Ugg make for a great slip-on shoes that keeps feet warm throughout the school day.
* Another trend is the colourful printed boot paired with dresses or skirts, leggings and layered shirts.
For boys clothes, the fashions are similar to girls in that the bottoms are slimmed down and layers are worn. Cargo pants are the exception, though these are not the baggy pants from last year. Winter colors are the neutral grays, browns and black, but bright blues and greens are equally as fashionable.
* Long-sleeved screen print tees with or without a casual button-up shirt in a variety of colors and patterns (plaids, stripes, and big dots) with dark denim jeans.
* Hoodies or zipper jackets worn over a layer of short-sleeved tees over long-sleeved tees.
* Skater shoes or “retro-style” tennis shoes such as Converse complete a casual look.
* Are you still a lover of the preppy style? Sports jackets and sweaters can be worn with jeans or casual pants with a pair of rubber-soled leather shoes.
