Decoration Ideas for Your Boys’ Room
Using a decorating theme in your boy’s room makes it a special place and allows him to express his individuality. Decorating for boys brings to mind the traditional themes like sports or racecars. There’s nothing wrong with those themes at all, especially if your boy really loves one of those ideas. But there are many other decorating themes that can transform your boy’s room into a one-of-a-kind space that he’ll love to relax and play in.
Lost in Space
What boy hasn’t dreamed of being an astronaut? An Outer Space theme would really get him reaching for the stars. Place some reflective stars on his ceiling - they’ll absorb light during the day and then glow at night. A wallpaper border with spaceships or planets and moons would set this theme off very well. Add a matching kids bed set with comforter and sham and this bedroom theme will have your boy dreaming of space.
Wild West
Does your boy love horses and cowboys? A Wild West theme can be really fun. Model horses and barns can be set up in the room, and add a wallpaper border that looks like rope or has bucking broncos on it. Make window treatments made of bandana fabric and use lots of tin stars and western wall hangings on the walls. Of course, add matching bedding to complete the look.
Welcome to the Jungle
Your boy can take an imaginary safari every time he enters his room with this decorating theme. There are wild, wonderful wallpapers and borders with animal prints or tropical trees. Paint the walls a cheerful blue or green to enhance the nature theme. Zebra stripes or leopard spots on the window valances showcase the wild atmosphere. Add lots of stuffed wild animals all over. You can even find a safari hat and hang it on the wall!
Mountain Top
This theme is similar to the Jungle theme, but instead of focusing on jungle animals you can showcase forest animals like moose and bears. You can add a rustic cabin feel by using lots of plaids, flannels and big cushy pillows. A rustic quilt should cover the bed. A wallpaper border or wallcovering with fish, birds and other forest animals will really add to the tranquil, natural atmosphere. Use lots of natural materials like pine cones and twigs as accessories.
Cartoons and Movies
For every major kid’s movie or popular cartoon produced there are all sorts of accessories and related items that you can use to transport your boy into the world of Scooby Doo, Harry Potter, Shrek or just about any characters your boy is captivated by. Theme bedding, wallpaper, lamps, posters, toys, and even bathroom towels can all be easily added to your boy’s room to capture his imagination whenever he enters his room.
SeaScape
For boys who love the ocean, how about an Under the Sea theme? Paint the walls a medium blue shade to make him feel like he’s in the ocean depths, and add accessories such as seashells. Hang netting from the walls or ceiling and make sure the lamps are shaped like seahorses, fish, or even sea monsters! Matching bedding, a storage trunk that looks like a pirate’s chest and maybe a real aquarium complete this decorating theme.
Use your child’s interests to create an inspirational haven for him. Choose a focal point such as the bedding or a specific accessory, and then let your imagination take over from there.
