Mystifying Magic Tricks for Children

Abracadabra!!! Alakazam!!! Hocus Pocus!!! Open sesame!!! ~ Let the Magic begin...

Magic tricks are illusions that anyone can learn to do to impress friends and family. Here are some really fun and easy magic tricks that you can perform today. The more you practice these tricks the better you will be at performing them and amazing your audience.

Everyone has 11 fingers...

This is just a little trick to get things started. Tell people that you can make them have 11 fingers. Ask them to count their fingers out loud and then you count along with them.

Ask if they are sure this is right.

Now ask them how much is 5 plus 5 is and let them answer.

Ask how many fingers are on each of their hands.

Now wave your hands or a small stick over their outstretched fingers and say a few magic words like

Hocus Pocus!

Now ask how much is 6 plus 5 is and let them answer.

Tell them you have made 6 fingers on one hand and left 5 on the other.

They will say no and wiggle their fingers.

Count the fingers on one of their hands by beginning at 10.

“10-9-8-7-6”, which means you will be saying the number “6” when you come to the thumb.

Loudly say “6” again and then count the fingers on the other hand by saying “1-2-3-4-5”.

Now ask them how much is 6 plus 5 is one last time.

The Magical Disappearing Coin...

You will need:

A clear drinking glass
Tape that is transparent or a tiny bit of glue
Sheet of construction paper
A coin
A handkerchief or scarf

Trace a circle exactly the size of the top or bottom of the drinking glass. Cut a second circle that is just a bit smaller and tape or glue a small coin to the centre.

Carefully glue the circle without the coin to the top or bottom of the glass so that the glue is not visible.

Now place the circle with the coin on a table or box.

Hold the glass in one hand so that no one can see the coloured circle you have attached.

Tell your audience that you will make the coin disappear by putting this empty glass on top of it.

Now place a handkerchief over the glass and lower it onto the coin.

You will have to position it just right to cover the circle holding the coin.

Say more magic words like “Hogsbreath Higgle Piggle” and then remove the handkerchief. It will seem as though the coin has vanished!

The Amazing Number Trick...

What you will need:

Sugar cubes
Pencil

Bowl or cup of water
An assistant

Using a pencil firmly print a number between 0-9 on the side of a sugar cube and make it as dark as you can.

An ink pen will not work for this trick.

Now tell people that you will make the number from the sugar cube appear on your assistant’s palm.
You can choose anyone as your assistant.

Hold the sugar cube very tightly between your thumb and forefinger as you talk about what you are going to do.

Make sure that the number is against your thumb so that it is transferred properly.
Now drop the sugar cube into the water and then hold your assistant’s outstretched hand over the cup of water, palm down.

As you do this trick, hold your thumb firmly against their palm.

When you remove your hand and tell them to hold their hand up for the audience you will be able to see the number on their palm.

Now good was all of that?
