Let's Take a Look at Some of the Strangest Phobias

When a person has a phobia it means they are really scared of something. People can have a phobia about dogs, insects, water, the darkness, or heights.  Phobias are sometimes the result of a bad experience, but there are people that have no idea why they are so terrified of things like plastic spiders, stuffed animals, or clowns.

• Allodaxaphobia – This is a phobia about other people’s opinions.  People with this kind of phobia do not like debates, discussions or classrooms because they are terrified of hearing the comments of others.

• If you have Barophobia, you have a terrifying fear of gravity that really takes the fun out of swinging, merry go rounds and climbing trees.

• There are people with Chromophobia, which is a fear about any kind of colourful objects. Seeing bright colours can make them break out in a cold sweat and suffer panic attacks. People who suffer from Chromophobia refuse to wear clothing that has any bright colours or designs.

• Claustrophobia is an intense fear of being in a small, closed in area like a cupboard or lift.

The unusual fear of anything located on the right side of your body is called Dextrophobia. These people are fine as long as everything is in front of them, behind them or located on the left side of their body.

• A person who has Francophobia has a terrifying fear of France and anything related to the culture of the country.

• If you have the unusual feeling that your knees are out to get you then it is possible that you may have Genuphobia.

• Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia , okay you should know what this phobia is….it is the fear of long words.

• The next time that you cannot complete your homework, just let your teacher know that you must be suffering from Ideophobia… which is the fear of ideas.

• Japanophobia – Pretty easy, these people have a phobia about Japan.

• Next time you see someone with their eyes closed, it might be because they have Optophobia. This phobia has people afraid to open their eyes.

• A person who is afraid of wealth and lots of money has Plutophobia

• A person who finds the moon very scary and refuse to go outside at night when the moon can be seen have Selenophobia.

• Cacophobia is a strange phobia because these people are afraid of anything that looks ugly to them, including their own reflection.

• An unreasonable terror of trees is called Dendrophobia. People with this phobia will not go near a park, a forest, or even out into a garden if it has trees.

• Telephonophobia is when people are terrified by telephones.

• Aritmophobia is another handy word to know so that you can use it on a teacher. This is a fear of numbers and mathematics.

• If you are very scared of the sun, you may have Heliophobia. The people who have this type of phobia avoid the sunlight whenever possible and they cover their heads, bodies, and hands if they are forced to go outside when the sun is still shining.
