10 Wacky Inventions That Didn't Change The World!
Inventors have created some wonderful things for us to use like cars, sleeping bags, stoves, lamps and televisions. Some of the inventions are not always quite as useful, and there are some that are just plain wacky. Look at these examples and let me know which one you think should win the title of “Wackiest Invention”. #1 The Fly Swatter That Makes Sounds This swatter makes sounds like “Whap”, “Pow”, and “Smash” every time it is used. It might be wacky, but I’ll bet its fun. #2 The Bird Catcher/Cat Feeder This looks like a small cage on top of a pole. When a bird is trapped the cage drops down to the ground. The holes in the cage are just large enough for a cat to reach in and grab the bird. This gets the “Mean and Cruel Award”. #3 A Hat that looks like a Fried Egg OK…I have no idea why anyone would want to wear a hat that looks like a fried egg …but if they made one that looked like “Pancakes” or a “Muffin”….I think I would wear one. #4 Jet Powered Surfboard This idea seems much too dangerous to me because a surfboard has no steering wheel. But I have to admit it would make a great escape from any shark that might suddenly appear. Just imagine how surprised those giant man-eaters would be to see their dinner zooming away from them. #5 Automatic Hat Tipper This was an invention that was made when men wore hats every day. The man could just tip his hat with a hand-operated lever. This invention stopped him from tiring his arm by constantly using his hand to tip his hat. It does not sound as though exercise was very popular back then, does it? #6 Bird Nappies These tiny nappies were designed for pet birds like cockatoos and parrots. I have never seen a bird wearing them so I do not think they were very popular. Do you know any bird that would willingly wear clothing? #7 Metal Locket for Storing Chewed Gum I love the idea of a necklace with a little locket that I can put my gum in at night. This might not be so wacky after all. The problem with this invention was that the gum stuck to the inside of the locket, but it still sounds sort of cool. #8 Animal Ear Protectors The name sounds better than the actual invention. The inventor thought dogs with floppy ears got too messy when they ate. He created two tubes that looked like those inside a roll of paper towels. You would put one on each ear of your dog so the ears would stand straight out. This kept them from getting their ears in the food at mealtime. I think most people would be laughing so hard at how silly the dogs looked that they would forget to feed them. And your dog might never forgive you for making him wear this crazy invention. #9 Edible Tie Pin Now this might be a little unusual, but any jewellery that you can also eat sounds good to me. #10 Eye Protectors for Chickens These were glasses for chickens. They had a little strap that fit over their heads and around their necks and the lenses were going to be made of glass. The inventor declared that this would save the eyes of a chicken from being pecked. Apparently, the pecking was not as big a problem as the inventor thought because no one wanted to buy them… or maybe the chickens just refused to wear these silly glasses.
