Baby Showers Can Be a Mum’s Best Friend

What is a Baby Shower?

Baby showers are planned events to celebrate motherhood and show the mum to be how much you care for her new baby. They are meant to help provide necessary items so that she is well prepared to welcome and care for her little one. Baby showers are also a time for guests to shower the mother with extra baby items that will be useful and fun to use for the coming arrival. Many mums are very grateful for the wonderful assortment of baby gifts that they receive. Some gifts include nappies, nappy bags, bottles, and clothing or even prepaid nappy services. The gifts are only limited by the imagination of those who are purchasing the items. Some of the expectant women have tight budgets and any gift is very much appreciated as this helps offset the costs involved with providing for a baby.

Planning

The baby shower is usually planned and hosted by the expectant mum’s sister or best friend. Any relative, close friends or co-workers can arrange this fun and joyful event. It normally takes place during the last few months of the pregnancy. Most showers are given about 4-6 weeks before the due date for baby. Traditionally, this event was for females only, but in recent years, men have been accepted and they add a totally different and fun air to the party. The host/hostess will gather a list of the new mother’s closest friends, family, and co-workers. They will often share the planning duties with a couple of other people because there is a lot of arranging to be taken care of in order to have a great baby shower.

Guests

The guest list should contain from six to 25 guests. This number can easily be changed but it just gives you a range to work with in the course of your planning. Too many guests will mean that there is less time to chat and the guest of honour will want to be able to spend at least a few minutes speaking with each and every guest and thank them for coming.  The host/hostess should send out invitations for this event at least 2 weeks in advance of the party so that there is plenty of time for all guests to respond. The location for any baby shower is up to the planners. These can be low key events in the office setting, they can be held at someone’s home, or they can even be staged in reserved dining rooms at hotels or restaurants. Baby showers are even sometimes complete surprise events and the mum to be is taken completely by surprise. Usually the mother to be is aware of the shower and she can provide a list of her most needed or wanted baby gifts. Guests can select a present from this list or use their own imagination and come up with a unique baby gift idea as a special surprise. Most mothers to be also register at department stores or online and these sites can be checked to see what she may need most for her new baby.

Gifts

Gifts can be very expensive or very modest in cost and they will all be appreciated by the expectant mother and her baby, when he or she arrives. Opening the gifts is the time that everyone will gather around the mum to be and share in her excitement and joy as she discovers each new treasure. There is food and games for all. Little party games with baby themes can be found at many party centres. Small favours can be awarded to the winners of these games. Food is provided and it can be as elaborate or as low key as you wish to make it. The cake will be decorated in a baby shower theme, and for decorations you can use pink, blue and yellow pastel ribbons and balloons. Tasting baby foods blindfolded and guessing the flavour and guessing the girth of the pregnant mum’s abdomen are perennial favourite guessing games that many baby showers use.
