Reading Baby Books
It is widely agreed upon that reading to your baby is a great thing to do. The American Academy of Pediatrics has stated that your baby will really start to enjoy having things read to them at about 6 months, but you can certainly start earlier than that.
Reading baby books to your young child is a great way for you to interact with your little one. While you are sitting reading your can cuddle up and really spend some one on one time with them. However, there are even better benefits of reading to your child than just the bonding time. It has been shown that by reading to your baby you are sparking their imagination, helping to build their vocabulary, and even help to develop your baby’s communication skills. Studies have shown that the more that you talk to your little one the more their language and intelligence skills improve. Choose personalised baby books add an extra level of interest as their own name will be included in the storyline, helping to increase their interest.
Once you have decided that you want to start reading to your baby, you will need to find some great books to read to them. In the beginning, you will want to choose literature that has a great rhythm to it. The nice thing is that you can usually pick anything from children’s books to a magazine because at this point your baby is really just paying attention to the rhythm and flow of the words. However, as you continue to read to your child you may want to invest in some bright colours and pictures. As your child begins to grow let them show you the types of books that they are interested in. Pay attention to which ones they like to play with or listen to.
One of the things that babies really like about being read to is the emotional connection that they have with you. Unfortunately, children's cds, television shows, and radio do not elicit the same connection that you reading to them does.
When you begin reading to your child, take care to simply focus on the joy of reading and spending time with them. It may be tempting to try to start teaching the educational principals of reading, but that can take away from the fun of reading. You are setting groundwork for the reader that your baby is going to grow into. You do not want to do anything that might take away that joy and make it a chore. Instead, if you focus on the fun with your child they will eventually start to make the educational connections of language on their own.
When you become a parent, you take on the hefty responsibility of shaping your child's life. You want to set them up for success in every aspect of their life. The best thing that you can do for them is to create an atmosphere of love and bonding. However, by integrating reading to your baby into your daily routine you can be sure that you will bestow a love of reading on them as well creating an activity that the two of you can enjoy together!
