Benefits Of Cloth Cotton Nappies

Are you concerned about providing the very best for that little bundle of joy?  Have you looked for things that save money, benefit heath and protect the environment?  There is one item you can buy for your baby that will do all three things.  Cloth nappies have started to experience a resurgence as parents are becoming more aware of the multiple impacts of disposable nappies.

What are the benefits of cloth nappy?  There are so many!  The most direct benefit is to your baby.  Cloth nappies are healthier, since disposable nappies are made with chemicals.  Disposable nappies also have a higher incidence of diaper rash due to allergic reactions, poor airflow and the dry feeling when the baby is actually wet that keeps a nappy on longer.

Cloth nappies are also eco-friendly.  Once you have your nappies, not only are you keeping them out of the landfills (where they will be for hundreds of years before they biodegrade),  but the energy used is a fraction of what is used for getting rid of disposables.  Cloth nappies can also be used from one child to the next, and you can recycle them for rags once they are not suitable for nappies any longer.

The biggest draw for some parents is the financial impact.  Over the course of 2 ½ years, you can save from several hundred pounds up to close to two thousand.  It is still cheaper if you use a commercial nappy service (versus washing them at home).  The initial investment in good cloth nappies will quickly be recouped.

Cotton nappies are easy to use.  They are shaped to contour to baby much better than nappies of the past.  Once your child soils the nappy, simply put the pooh in the potty and flush it away, and toss the diaper in a pail until you have a load ready.  If you choose a diaper service, they’ll do all the dirty work for you.

How much benefit you discover by using cloth reuseable nappies range depending on how completely your child uses them.  Just because you choose to use them at home does not mean you have to take your baby out in cloth.  Keeping some disposables on hand makes for a perfect combination of form and function.  Whether you are certain, or if you still aren’t sure you want to make the plunge to full time cloth nappies, I encourage you to try it.

Many online stores offer a great selection of cloth and bamboo nappies that come in styles that make it much savvier than you imagined.   Once you have tried it, you have the option of getting as many nappies as you need for changes between washings.  You might decide you never want to go back.
