Potty Training Tips

Many parents seem to have the idea that potty training is going to be a difficult task. However, it doesn’t always have to be so difficult.  In fact, with the right techniques, you'll actually find that it can go quite smoothly. Of course it is going to take a bit of work on your part, so here are some important potty training tips that can be a huge help, as you potty train your child. There are a number of speciality baby potty training products on the market that can assist you.

Tip #1 - Make Sure Your Child is Ready - The first thing you need to do is to make sure that your child is ready to take this step. Can your child understand you when you tell him to do something? If not, then he may not be developmentally ready yet for potty training. So, make sure that he can understand commands that you give before you try undertaking potty training.

Tip #2 - Teach Your Child About Bathroom Functions - You should also take the time to teach your child about bathroom functions. Talk to them about functions that occur in the bathroom using words that they can understand. This way they will know what you are talking about when you start the potty training.

Tip #3 - Prepare by Going Shopping Together for Supplies - To prepare for potty training, go shopping together with your child for the supplies that you are going to need. You are going to need several training potties, some pull ups, clothing that is easy to get off, and perhaps even some training pants. Make the trip a fun one so the whole idea of potty training seems more exciting to your child.

Tip #4 - Use a Teaching Doll to Help Your Child Understand - When you are trying to potty train, using a teaching doll to help your child understand the process can be a huge help. This way you and your child can take the doll through the process, and then it will be easier for your child to understand how to go through the process of potty training.

Tip #5 - Remember to Be Patient - The most important thing you can do as you work on potty training your child is to remember to be patient. It's going to take some time to get your child potty trained, so don't expect it to happen over night. However, when you show patience, you'll definitely find that things go smoother and faster.
