Christmas Holiday fun for kids
There are some very special ways of creating holiday fun for children at this time of year. Kids are very excited by all of the activity and excitement that surrounds the Christmas holidays and they want to be a part of all of the festivities and preparations. Here are some wonderful ideas and activities for you and your children to enjoy.
Let the kids help wrap presents with colourful newsprint and magazine pages. They can use entire sheets to do the job, or cut out small pieces and make unique collages that can be very attractive and unusual. This also teaches them about recycling while saving you money on the more expensive wrapping paper. Relatives will be especially charmed by the appearance of the gifts and the effort involved. Your children will be very proud and delighted with the results of their handwork.
Biscuits are wonderful to eat but there are some easy recipes that make wonderfully aromatic ornaments that can trim a tree, or trim a present. For these, you only need 2 ingredients:
3 c applesauce
3 c ground cinnamon
You and your children can mix these two ingredients together until it is thick enough to be flattened out on a counter. It can be rolled out with a rolling pin or let the children pat it flat with their hands. Then let them use Christmas "cookie cutters" to make different shapes like trees, stars, and snowmen. Make a small hole at the top with a toothpick or with a small pencil, so you can hang them or tie them to a package. Place these on biscuit sheets or wire racks to dry for several days. Your children will enjoy hanging these decorations on a tree, decorating packages with them or even giving these ornaments away as presents.
Help your children make paper chains to decorate the room or the tree by using red, green, and white construction paper. They can cut the paper into strips of different sizes, apply stickers, or add colourful drawings of reindeer, candy canes, bells, and trees. Even newspapers and magazines can be used for colourful and fun strips of paper to make these decorative chains.
Holiday cards can be made from paper, cloth and almost any sorts of bits and pieces. Buttons, ribbons, glitter, and stickers are just a few ideas that can be used to create some spectacular cards. Grandparents are sure to treasure these gifts and hand penned poems or sentiments from the grandchildren will make these simple Christmas cards a tremendous success.
