Ever Wondered What The Nativity Means?

I'm sure you've heard the word "Nativity," especially around Christmas time, but you may not really know what it is and what it all means. The words "nature", "native" and "nation" all originated from "natal" a Latin word meaning "birth", from which comes the word "nativity", meaning one's birth. THE nativity has come to mean the birth of Christ in the Christian faith, so let's take a look at what it means in the Christian faith.
Long before Jesus Christ was ever born, his birth was prophesied by many prophets. They talked of the Messiah who was coming to be a deliverer to the Jews. They told that he would be born in the city of Bethlehem.
Later a man named Joseph, who was a descendent of King David and a carpenter, had to come to Bethlehem with his wife Mary for a census that included taxation. Mary was pregnant and ready to have her baby. That night that they arrived, they could only find room in a stable for animals, since none of the inns had any rooms available.
It was in the stable full of animals that Mary gave birth to Jesus. After the birth, the wise men would end up showing up to pay homage to baby Jesus and shepherds that had seen the angels in the sky also came to worship Jesus too. This scene, that included Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, the shepherds, and the wise men, is what is the actual Nativity.
The Nativity is very important to Christians today and is an important element of the Christmas Holiday. While there are many differences of opinion as to the actual time when Jesus was born, for most Christians they celebrate the birth of Christ on Christmas day, December 25th.
Today we remember the Nativity around Christmas time and many people choose to remember it by having replicas of the Nativity for decoration and there are many churches that even have living portrayals of the Nativity as well to commemorate the birth of Christ. Schools often put on plays before the Christmas holidays with the children in nativity dressing up costumes telling the story of The Nativity.
