Make Family Game Night a Must-Do Activity in your Home

Feel like you’re missing out on some of that special family bonding time? Don’t feel alone, most families are feeling a bit out of touch with each other. Work, school and commitments seem to take up so much of our available time that it is hard to find a few moments just to enjoy the company of loved ones. This is why a family game night is a great idea and this article will give you hints and suggestions to make this an event you will want to repeat every week.

A game night for the family will let you communicate with each other and catch up on daily happenings. You can also teach your kids about good sportsmanship and everyone can show off their unique talents and skills while competing for the win.
This activity can seem just like a short, refreshing holiday and you will also create memories that both parents and kids will treasure forever.

• Let the family know that this is important and make it a priority. This will make it seem extra special and everyone will be anticipating the action. Clear the calendar and turn the cell phones off.

• Some of the time you may want to include friends or neighbours in the games and activities, but having a Family Only Game Night should be just what it says….Family Only.

• The rules for this are no interruptions, no television and no phones.

• Have a selection of games available beforehand and let family members each take turns choosing which game to play.

• Make sure that the games can be played by everyone; you do not want activities that are too difficult to enjoy.

• Parents are amazed at the amount of teaching that can be done in this entertaining and fun filled environment. Your children will learn manners, how to wait for their turn and will sharpen their social and conversational skills.

• Remember to keep a sense of humour throughout the night, the real point of the evening is to have a great time and enjoy being at home with the family.

• There are thousands of games on the market from Monopoly to Snakes and Ladders. You can choose some of the perennial classics like Cluedo, Battleship, Operation or Trivial Pursuit or opt for something a bit different. If your family likes strategy games you can certainly find one that everyone will like. There are also some great DVD games available and for this you must use the TV. Games based on skill and activity are thrilling for many people  and some families enjoy just using a large construction set to see which team can build the most unusual structure.

• Be sure to have snacks and drinks and you will create a Million Dollar Moment for the entire family for only Pennies.
