Playing with Pasta is Perfectly Pleasing

Want to see how you would look if you were made from pasta?

Most people say don't play with your food, but some foods are just meant to be explored and they add a lot of excitement to a boring day.

Here are some kid friendly instructions that can be used to make some wonderful pasta fun. This is the kind of fun food that both parents and children can really play with.

Step 1

Parents need to help just a bit because to colour pasta you need to pour about 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol into a bowl or a zipper lock plastic bag. Then add about 4-6 drops of any shade of food colouring that you like. Make as many different alcohol/food colours as you like but keep them all separate. Then add the pasta shells to the colour mix and let them stay for a minute or two so that the colour will be absorbed. You can stir them around with a spoon to make sure that the colour takes.

Now let the coloured pasta dry on some paper plates or parchment paper during the night.

Depending on what types of pasta you have used you might have a dozen varieties or more to use for your favourite crafts.

Use macaroni shells, rigatoni or elbow noodles and string, twine or yarn, to make necklaces and bracelets.

Broken, coloured spaghetti and vermicelli can be used to make a collage

Bow tie noodles can be used to make unique picture frames.

Even use a handful of these to add to a clear vase. Then add dried flowers or pretty branches to make a nice centrepiece for a table.

A Body Meets a Body

You do not have to wait for Halloween to make a pasta skeleton. Here is what you will need

A sheet of black or dark coloured construction paper
Craft glue (the kind that is clear when it dries is best)
Lima beans for the head, and hips
Tube macaroni for the spine
Spiral Macaroni in long twirly shapes for arms and legs
Elbow noodles for the ribs
Tiny shells for the body joints
Black marker fine tip

Use a picture of a skeleton to get started, parents can help by building the first model skeleton with pasta.

Start at the head and work to the feet

Add a smile and facial features to the lima bean head by using the fine tip marker

You can use other dried beans or tiny peas as joints, or to add to some of the other features

Paper Plate Picture Frames

You need any kind of paper plate for this project although the sturdy kind might be best.

Take a small photo and mark how much room you will need to glue it in the middle of the plate.

The rest of the plate can be decorated with markers, paint and pasta.

You can use plain pasta or coloured pasta for this project.

The tri coloured pastas are very useful because they already have some colour.

What You Will Need:

Paper Plates

Craft Glue

Photos that you can use can be a picture that your Mom gives to you for the project or some that you find in magazines.

Place the photo in the centre of the plate; it does not have to be exactly in the middle.

Make your marks and then place small dots of glue on the back of the photo or picture.

Glue your special photo, or magazine picture in place.

You can now decorate around the picture with bits of pasta.

Let your imagination be the leader in this pasta adventure. Make your picture frame a true work of fantastic art.

You can decorate the entire plate or just frame the picture.

Use lots of different types and shapes of pasta to make your new project even more original.

Some people like to use paint or markers to add more colour to the edges of the plate, it's all up to you.

If you want to hang your creation on a wall you can glue a piece of twine or heavy string to the back of the plate to make a loop.
