The Hit US TV Show Glee, and A Little About Glee Clubs

It’s like they say; only if you’ve been living in a dark hole in the middle of nowhere do you not know of or at least have heard of Glee. Glee is the American musical comedy-drama television series that has gone global.

The TV programme has been such a success with its cheesy classics and sing-a-long show tunes that you might think that it is a new craze. You’d be wrong, it’s thought to have started in the 17th century and back then it was a group made up of mostly men.

Although the Glee Clubs were very popular around this time, like most things they went out of fashion and were no longer ‘cool’, but it was still a big thing in Japan and North America. The oldest Glee Club in America is the Harvard Glee Club; this was started in 1858!

So what makes the show big and popular now? Is it because it has a feel good factor and everyone can join in or is it because it is slowly bringing old songs back into the charts?

Well that would be up for you to decide, but while you work that out why not start your own Glee inspired group. Using hits from Madonna, Lady Gaga and Beyonce to Miley Cyrus, Lily Allen and Usher. If you can’t think of the best songs maybe look at musicals like High School Musical.
