Help your Child Discover a Lifelong Love for Learning and Exploration

As parents we all want to give our children the best possible foundation for future success. Education and child development experts all agree that we should surround our children with learning opportunities that are fun and inviting. This will stimulate their imagination, expand their minds, and foster a love of discovery that will last the rest of their lives.
Involve your child in daily household activities to help them make crucial connections about principles such as cause and effect. This is very easy to do. Ask your child to help you as you water plants in your home or garden. Talk with them as you perform the chore and let them know why you are doing it and what the results will be.
Encourage them to ask questions or offer comments. They can learn a great deal just with this simple activity. For instance you can teach them about measurements and different plants. This makes it simple for them to make the connection between the cause and effect of too much, or too little, watering. Who knows, in addition to providing them with useful information and skills you might just be nurturing a future gardening expert or a budding botanist.
Intellectual stimulation can be enhanced by interaction between parent and child, and you do not have to rely on household chores for your common interests. Educational toys and board games are available that are challenging and fun. Many of these products have a great amount of child-friendly appeal because they encourage kids to use all of their senses and skills. Most educational toys have many uses and functions and curious children will not become bored with them after just a day or two.
There are some wonderful educational games that can help stimulate your child's mind too. A kid's globe, for instance, can be a treasure trove of information for the family to enjoy. Show your child continents and capital cities, help them discover the oceans and seas, and watch their interest build quickly. If you can find a topographical globe you can add tactile stimulation to the learning process. Your kids will be thrilled to explore the mountains and valleys of the world, just by using their fingertips.
Kids are born with an innate love of rhythm and music and many parents will let toddlers bang on pots and pans to their heart's content. You can also utilize a variety of educational toys that will help your child develop their musical talents and interests. There are CDs available for them to listen to, and a wide assortment of children's instruments for them to play with. Clacking, rhythm sticks, xylophones and keyboards will delight any child for endless hours. You never know, the next composer or master musician may be sitting right at your feet, pounding on that old kitchen pot with a wooden spoon.
