Fun Facts about the Simpsons for Kids

When choosing what to watch on the TV every day a favorite in many houses is the Simpsons. Nobody could predict how popular the Simpsons were going to become, when they started out the show was simply meant to be a series of short stories for another TV show. The Simpsons proved to be very popular and they soon got their own TV series which is watched by millions of people.

The Simpsons was written by a writer in America, he based the characters around his own family, and changed the main characters name to Bart. All of the other characters are in fact names of his family members. The show is set in the fictional city of Springfield and tries to show what an average family in the USA is like. Since the show first went onto our televisions in 1989, it has broadcast over 463 episodes and the Simpsons even have their own film now. The writers, characters and the show have won many awards, and the Simpsons even have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. Homers famous catchphrase of "D'oh!" has a place in the English language and is recognized as a phrase.

The characters are, Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart and Maggie they are designed to show a normal mum and dad and their three kids. Homer is a fat, beer loving father who goes to work at the local power plant; or rather he sits around eating doughnuts and sleeping. Homer is often seen doing very stupid, pointless things, which is why he is so liked by the viewers. Marge is the mum who is your normal, loving, caring mum and wife, she shows in every program how much she loves her husband and kids no matter what they get up to. Lisa is a genius, and tries to reason with the other members of the family, she gets on with her life and everyday proves she is smarter than them. Bart is a rebel and spends all of his time making the principals life unhappy. He likes to play pranks on everybody and these often go very wrong, but do have funny results.

The Simpsons only have six main voice people; they do all of the characters meaning one person will do more than one voice. Homer Simpson's voice is also krusty the clown, Abraham Simpson and Barney Gumble, although they are very different voices. The lady who does the voice for Lisa, only does her voice and is the only character that is happens to. Bart's voice is in fact a woman; she has been playing the voice of Bart since the start and is also Ralph wiggam and one other child in the school. The lady who is Bart's voice did not audition for that part, but was offered it when the writers heard the cheeky tone that she had. It suits Bart perfectly and makes the character even more special, the voice people are paid a lot of money to make sure they continue to do the voices. Changing the voices now would ruin the characters that everyone loves so much. Because the show is so funny and is watched by so many people it is guaranteed to be on the TV for many years to come.
