How to Keep a Toddler Amused on Rainy Days

Many adults enjoy the rainy lazy days of spring, summer and winter. Those are the perfect days to kick back with your favourite coffee and book and relax. That is unless you have a toddler that is bursting with energy that would rather be running around and playing, soaking up life in their own way. Don’t fret, it is possible to keep your toddler amused on those rainy days with out driving yourself nuts.
Everyone knows that toddlers love to use their hands. A wonderful rainy day activity includes finger painting, Play-Doh, Moon Sand. If you don’t have any of those items on board get out a can of shaving cream or even baking flour and let them play at the table with those. Lay out a big sheet of paper, or cut open paper grocery bags and let their little minds and little fingers do some decorating. Yes, it may be a little messy, but they will have so much fun it will be well worth the clean up. For more fun, you can create a clean up game which believe it or not they will enjoy as well.
You can also make paper hats and boats. You can put a couple of inches in a wash tub and let them float their boats. Or you could get out the rain coats and rain boots once the rain lets up a little and let them float their boats in the puddles.
A noisier option, but one that can be a lot of fun if you take part in the play is creating a kitchen band. There isn’t a toddler in the world that doesn’t enjoy getting out the pots and pans and clanging them together or tap them with wooden and plastic spoons. Let you inner diva out and sing along with the music they play.
If you are trying to get them down for some much needed quiet time, get out a couple of big blankets and make a tent out of a few chairs and table, pop some popcorn and pop in their favorite movie. While you snuggle up and munch on healthy popcorn you make plans for the rest of the rainy day. Once awake the tent can turn into a magical castle.
Now you can not ignore the best part of a rainy day, which is going out and playing in the rain. Once the rain lets up and if there isn’t any thunder and lightening, get out the children's rainwear - raincoats, boots and umbrellas, and go for a walk, or better yet, just let them run wild in the rain. Splashing in puddles, making mud pies and catching rain drops on the tongue are the perfect rainy day events for kids of all ages.
