So who's better - girls or boys?

For a long as we can remember boys and girls have been competing against each other, this isn’t in a bad thing, in music there are boy bands and girl bands, the most recent battle of the bands was on a TV show call Popstars; The Rivals.

The idea was for a group of girls and a group of boys go head to head for the Christmas number one, they were not going to be two famous bands that were going to fight it out on the music chart. This was going to be two brand new bands, made on a the show where people got kicked off until the bands had five people each and then they made a record all hoping for that all important number one spot.

The boy band was made up of up of: Anton, Matt, Daniel, Keith and Jamie, the girls were made up of; Cheryl, Nicola, Nadine, Kimberley and Sarah. I’ll tell you the names of the band and you guess which one won the Christmas number;

One True Voice and Girls Aloud

Like you really had to think about it! It was Girls Aloud who won with their now classic song “Sound of the Underground” this stayed number one for four weeks. While Girls Aloud (who were formed in 2002) go from strength to strength One True Voice broke up in 2003!

Girl Power started with the Spice Girls it continues to grow with groups like; Destiny’s Child, Pussycat dolls and The Saturdays. However, like always the boys aren’t going away quietly, a few years ago (it was 1990 so maybe more than a few!) there was a boy band which had the standard 5 young guys who could danced and sing, Take That was born. This group had such a huge following of fans that upon their announcement of their break up six year later, millions of teenage fans were seen crying all over the country and across Europe and the situation got so awful that help lines had to be set up by local authorities to help many young women!! (I don’t believe any girl band had ever had that... Not even the Spice Girls)

Take That were a huge band and now they’ve come back and are on the track to have the same level of success this time with a whole bunch of new fans, they’ve also  led the way for other groups to reform like; Boyzone, New Kids on the Block and East 17, so maybe boy bands rule?

Although it can sometimes be tough to be in a girl or boy group it can also be rewarding. Were you or are you a Brownie or a Boy Scout?

Young boys join Scouts they can be called; Boy Scouts or Cub Scouts while girls join the Brownies that can also be called Girl Scouts.

The importance of Scouting is to have fun and learn at the same time. A scout gets satisfaction from meeting challenges, learning new things, discovering and mastering new skills, and developing strong friendships. Activities include games, camping, woodcraft, first aid, hiking sports, arts and crafts, day trips, communicating with others, learning about the environment and fire safety.

The Boy Scout promise is:

Promise

I promise that I will do my best,

To do my duty to God and to the Queen,

To help other people,

And to keep the Cub Scout Law.

The Boy Scout Law is;

 Cub Scouts always do their best,

Think of others before themselves and

Do a good turn every day.

The Scout Motto

 Be prepared.

Whilst the Brownies Promise is:

I promise that I will do my best,

To love my God,

To serve the Queen and my country,

To help other people,

And to keep the Brownie Guide Law.

The Brownie Guide Law is:

A Brownie Guide thinks of others before herself and does a good turn every day.

I do not know which one is best but I bet they’ll all be fun!
