Recipes and Cooking Instructions for Children on How to Make Chocolate Brownies

Chocolate brownies are delicious bites of chocolate and they are easy enough for kids to make with just a little assistance from adults. Of course, we know that you can make these by using a packaged mix in a box, but let's have some fun in the kitchen and impress everyone by showing them just how good a chef you really are. Remember, your mum and dad, or another adult must be in charge of the actual baking and should be the ones who handle the hot trays!

The ingredients are very simple:

* ¼ cup of cocoa from a can
* 1/3 cup of shortening or soft butter
* 1 cup of sugar
* 2 eggs
* ¾ cup of plain flour
* ½ teaspoon of baking powder
* ½ teaspoon of salt

* Optional Ingredients are ½ cup nuts (pecans, walnuts or sunflower nuts), and ½ cup chocolate chips or candy coated baking chocolates. These can be added to your mix but they do not have to be included at all and the brownies will still be quite wonderful.

Now for your directions as follows:

Have an adult preheat the oven to 350 degrees while you prepare the ingredients.

First, lightly dust an 8X8 inch square baking pan with a vegetable spray or use a little butter to coat the bottom and sides of the pan.

In a large or medium sized mixing bowl, combine your first 7 ingredients.

Only use the nuts and chocolate chips if you choose to do so.

When all of the ingredients are mixed together, you will pour it into your pan, you might ask for some assistance to help with this because the bowl can be heavy. Smooth the top with a spatula or mixing spoon and let an adult place it in the oven to bake for 20-25 minutes.

When your brownies are done, you can let your parents or another adult remove the pan for you and place it on a trivet or a wire rack to cool.

When your great brownie dessert has cooled for at least 30 minutes, you can sprinkle some powdered sugar over the top or frost the top with icing.

You can make some vanilla frosting in just a few minutes and it is much tastier than the kind you buy at the grocery store.

Ingredients:

* 2 cups of powdered sugar
* ½ teaspoon of vanilla flavouring
* 2 Tablespoons milk

You can mix these ingredients by hand in a mixing bowl or ask an adult to help you use an electric mixer. Remember to use a deep bowl if you are using a mixer. If the icing is too thin, you can add some powdered sugar and if it is too thick, you can add a little more milk, about 1/2 teaspoon at a time. Now you can use this icing to top your brownies.

* You can even make a chocolate icing by adding one more ingredient, 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder and then add candy coated chocolates or chocolate chips as fun decorations on top of your brownies.
